visas: almost done

Next step in our process: visas.

A few weeks ago, I completed a DS-260 form, which is an application for Madeleine's immigrant visa from the U.S. State Department.  In a few weeks, her paperwork will be ready for what's called Article 5 pick-up.  This means that the U.S. consulate in Guangzhou (which will be our last stop in China) has completed its initial review of her documentation.

Simultaneously, we have submitted our visa paperwork to the China consulate in the United States, and we should have our passports/visas in hand in the next few days.  (Not that I had any plans to travel out of the country, but it was a little nerve-wracking to entrust our passports to the U.S. postal service...)

From the point the Article 5 is picked up, we will then wait for travel approval.  We'll then ask the U.S. consulate in Guangzhou for an appointment time and date -- and then we go!

Everything points to a travel date in October!

(I'm really hoping we'll be home by Halloween, because I have a SUPER cute costume in mind for Madeleine!)
